SURABAYA: Mohd Shukor Adan helped Malaysia eke out a 1-1 draw against archrivals Indonesia in a friendly on Friday.

Benny Dollo’s men took the lead in front of a sell-out crowd on 25 minutes when team pin-up Bambang Pamungkas converted a penalty. But their joy was shortlived as Adan struck in the 34th minute with a header to level the scores.

“We are satisfied with the result,” said Malaysian coach B Sathianathan. “Even though we did not win, it was an evenly balanced tie.”

“At the very least, I can see there is a level of improvement in the team and the cooperation between players is better.”

Dollo said: “The two wingers - Budi Sudarsono and Ellie Aiboy - were not functioning. It affected the flow of the game and we seem to lose possession all too easily.”

Indonesia next play Vietnam in another friendly on June 11, 2008.
