KUALA LUMPUR: The fifth edition of the AFF Futsal Championship will take place in Bangkok from August 27-31, 2008, with four-time consecutive champions Thailand defending their title in their own backyard.
And, to aid the Thais in their designs, the draw proved to be kind as they were slotted recently with the Philippines, Indonesia and Myanmar in Group A.
Thailand, who finished as runners-up to Iran in this year’s AFC Futsal Championship, kick off their campaign against the Philippines.
Group B will see a battle between Malaysia, Laos, Vietnam and Brunei.
The top-two teams in each group move to the semi-finals which will be played on August 30 while the final is slated for the next day at the Nimibutr Stadium.
Scheduled a month before the FIFA Futsal World Cup in Brazil, the AFF tournament provides the right platform for Thailand to prepare for the global showpiece for which they have been slotted with Italy, Portugal, Paraguay and the United States in Group B.
