YANBIAN: China U-23 team continued their preparations for the next month’s Beijing Olympics with a 4-0 thrashing of their Malaysian counterparts recently.
China captain Zheng Zhi, who struts his stuff for English side Charlton Athletic, opened the scoring for Ratomir Dujkovic’s team from the spot in the 38th minute.
Gao Lin doubled the advantage at the stroke of half time while Yuan Weiwei made it 3-0 three minutes past an hour. Manchester United striker Dong Fangzhuo sealed the victory for the hosts in the 71st minute.
“The game was tough as both the teams were in good physical condition. We had problem in marking when the game started but our defence got better in the later stages," Dujkovic said after the game.
"The result is inspiring and the players did their best in this match. I feel the four goals will increase confidence of my players."
China were drawn in Group C in Olympics along side New Zealand, Brazil and Belgium and will open their campaign against New Zealand on August 7.
