JAKARTA: Bahrain will play Australia in the final of the AFF Under-16 Youth Championship today after managing a 1-1 draw against Malaysia on Thursday at the Lebak Bulus Stadium.
In the final crucial group game, Malaysia scored first in the 15th minute off a free kick from Ahmad Fauzan Yahya before Bahrain replied through Salman Al Dakheel in the 90th minute.
The Malaysians scored their first goal of the game when a free kick from Ahmad Fauzan Yahya sailed over the Bahraini defensive wall and into goal.
Five minutes later Bahraini Hasan Ahmed Ishaq got his marching orders but the Gulf side hunkered down and managed to squeeze in the equaliser in the last minute of the game when Al Dakheel outjumped the others to head the ball in.
The hard-earned point saw Bahrain emerging as the group runners-up based on goal difference ahead of Malaysia.
